Licensed taxis and the meter

Official Barcelona taxis are black and yellow and always run on a meter with regulated rates. There are no "tourist prices" โ€” the meter is the same for everyone, which protects you from being overcharged.

How fares work

The meter starts with a small base charge, then adds a set rate per kilometre, with a slightly higher tariff at night and on weekends. Airport and cruise-port trips add a fixed supplement. For pre-booked airport and port transfers we can give you an approximate price in advance on WhatsApp.

Paying: card or cash

Most taxis accept card as well as cash, but it is wise to confirm when you get in. We accept both. Keep some small notes handy for short rides.

Tipping

Tipping is not obligatory in Barcelona. Many people simply round up to the nearest euro or two, or add a little for help with heavy luggage โ€” but it is always your choice.

How to spot a licensed taxi

Look for the black-and-yellow colours, a visible meter, a licence number on the door and a green roof light when the taxi is free. For peace of mind, especially with luggage or late at night, pre-booking means a known driver is waiting for you.

Staying safe

Use official taxis or a pre-booked transfer rather than anyone approaching you inside the terminal. Keep your bags with you, and ask for a receipt if you need one.
